Queens Jubilee Celebrations in Blackpool

1 May 2022

Blackpool will be celebrating the Queens Jubilee with a wide range of events across the resort in June.

The headline event will be a unique one off ‘Heritage Tram’ parade on the afternoon of Thursday 2nd June – as a fleet of trams will come out of retirement and travel in convoy from Blackpool Pleasure Beach to the North Pier, before being available for the public to take journeys on them North and South on the promenade.

Other Queen’s celebrations will take place on the Blackpool Comedy Carpet, including a giant picnic, a special beacon lighting at three locations across Blackpool (including the iconic Blackpool Tower Ballroom), and a spectacular fireworks display launched from Blackpool Pleasure Beach on the night of Saturday 4th June.

To commence the two bank holidays at the start of the four-day holiday weekend. on Thursday 2nd June  a grand parade of heritage trams will take place along the seafront, a giant outdoor picnic and free entertainment on the Comedy Carpet, a light and laser show, and a burst of fireworks at the top of The Blackpool Tower.

Staged in association with Blackpool Transport and the Tourism Business Improvement District (TBID), the parade will see around a dozen trams from the heritage fleet travel in convoy from the Pleasure Beach to Little Bispham, creating one of the largest tram parades the resort has seen.

The convoy, which sets off at 2.30pm, will pause at the Tower Festival Headland opposite the Viva Showrooms and the Viva Vegas Diner for a unique photo opportunity.

Between 3pm and 7pm, people will be able to relax at The Big Comedy Picnic, an al fresco eating out area opposite The Blackpool Tower and the Viva venues, with free live entertainment – including our very own Jersey Beats and Viva cast!

Then, between 9pm and 9.45pm, there will be further entertainment before the resort joins the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Beacons, followed by a light show and a burst of fireworks on The Blackpool Tower.

Although the historic trams were officially “retired” when new European-style trams were brought into service on the seafront route in 2012, a number of them were retained and thanks to an army of volunteers have been brought back into regular use. They now form one of the finest heritage fleets in the world.

Blackpool is one of thousands of locations and landmarks across the UK where beacons will be lit. In true Blackpool style, it will be adding its own unique twist to the ceremony. Beacon lighting has long been associated with celebrating major milestones, including Royal Jubilees, weddings and coronations. Dating all the way back to 1897, beacons were lit to celebrate Queen Victoria’s Diamond Jubilee. Most recently, beacons have been used to mark the 75th anniversary of VE Day and Her Majesty’s 90th birthday in 2016.

A spokesperson said: “We are thrilled that Blackpool Transport and the Tourism Business Improvement District are partnering with us to create a unique celebration of this very special royal milestone.

“A parade of heritage trams on this scale is something that has not been seen for many years and it promises to be a spectacular sight. The addition of a burst of fireworks at the top of The Blackpool Tower will create a magnificent finale at the end of the first day of the holiday.”

The parade and beacon lighting ceremony form part of a brilliant programme of events across the resort to celebrate the special royal milestone. These include:

  • The lighting of The Blackpool Tower in red, white and blue throughout the four days.
  • Jubilee-themed events and live entertainment at Blackpool Pleasure Beach throughout the four-day holiday weekend including late night riding, fireworks and a Jubilee Concert on Saturday 4 June.
  • A chance to take afternoon tea in one of Blackpool’s magnificent heritage venues including the magnificent Blackpool Tower Ballroom, the Imperial Hotel, the magnificent Mazzei Café in the Winter Gardens, and the Art Deco Café overlooking the Italian Gardens in the award-winning Stanley Park.

Brand New Peter Rabbit Attraction HOPS Into Blackpool Opening 2022

25 November 2021

The well loved classical character PETER RABBIT will burrow into Blackpool Promenade next year with a new £1 million attraction set to open in 2022 in partnership with Merlin Entertainments.

Beloved characters from the award-winning PETER RABBIT™ animated TV series are set to make a new home on Blackpool’s famous seafront next year in a partnership that marks the first stand-alone Merlin visitor attraction to be based on the series

The attraction will open on Blackpool Promenade, next door to Madame Tussauds on the seafront as a stand-alone attraction – the first time Merlin has ventured on such an attraction based upon the series and is a World first! The addition will join Merlin’s six other attractions in Blackpool including The Blackpool Tower and SEA LIFE Blackpool.

The brand-new concept is the first time Merlin has created a stand-alone visitor attraction experience based on the series.

The new experience will provide the opportunity to hop into the over-sized world of Peter and his friends to embark on an adventure across five fluffy-tailed themed zones. Guests will need to think like a rabbit, move like a rabbit and deploy rabbit-like senses with a whole burrow-full of creativity in order to complete the challenges and earn badges – seeing if they have the skills to join the secret treehouse club!

Guests will also be able to meet, greet and ‘high-paw’ with Peter himself – making the experience a bumper bunny day out! All of Peter’s friends will be joining him on the promenade – an exciting trip for thousands of pre-schoolers who will visit the resort in years to come and part of Blackpool’s strategy to become a year round destination!

Bobby Ball (1944-2020)

29 October 2020

Bobby Ball (1944-2020)
Viva Blackpool are incredibly sad to announce the passing of one of the UKs biggest ever comedy stars – Mr Bobby Ball
Bobby has been an amazing friend to Viva. He supported us before we opened the venue, and has performed at Viva every year for the past 8 years with his comedy partner Tommy and his sons Rob & Darren.
Bobby has always been there at the end of the phone for words of support and encouragement – and we have been thrilled, and have pinched ourselves each and every time Bobby & Tommy walked onto our stage together and had the audience in the palm of their hands.
Cannon & Ball were the World’s longest running comedy duo with a career spanning over 56 years – with a huge list of television credits, most notably ‘The Cannon and Ball Show’ from 1979 to 1988 being one of the highest rated shows on ITV.
Cannon & Ball performed their final show together on Friday 9th October at Viva Blackpool.
Our deepest condolences go out to Bobby’s wife of 46 years Yvonne, his sons Rob and Darren, his grandchildren and all the family. Also to his partner in comedy Tommy, and his manager Phil Dale.
A legend. A friend. Rest in Peace Bobby.
With love and deepest respect from Leye, Martin and all at Viva Blackpool x

4.    Stanley Park

Stanley Park by Jon Boriss Photography

This picturesque and much-loved park recently reached new levels of status after being named the UK’s best park for 2019. The impressive 390-acre grade-II listed park provides an experience for the old and young, which shouldn’t be missed. Amongst other features it boasts Italian gardens, a boating lake and band stand, an art deco cafe, and an award-winning model village.

5.    The Blackpool Tower Ballroom

The Blackpool Tower Ballroom

This might be in Blackpool Tower, but the iconic attraction deserves to have its own place in our top ten. Described as the world’s most spectacular ballroom, seeing it is a sight to behold. You can experience what’s like to dance on the magnificent floor, listen the impressive Wurlitzer organ, or just sit back and enjoy a scrumptious afternoon tea.

6.    Sea Life Aquarium

Blackpool Sea Life Aquarium

Home to over 2000 marine creatures, this is another worthy visit – especially on a rainy day.  You and the family can enjoy the aquarium zones, from the small creatures of the Rock Pools, to those of the Atlantic Depths and the fish of the Quayside. Or you can immerse yourself in a world of stingrays, take a submarine ride to the depths of the ocean, or walk through the spectacular ocean tunnel.

7.    Heritage Tram Tours

Heritage Trams by Gary Mitchell

This is where you can experience riding on a world-famous classic Blackpool tram. A fleet of more modern trams now run on the town’s tramway. But here, the best and iconic heritage trams have been restored to their original condition and are available to ride along the promenade. Nowhere else in the UK can you ride a heritage tram on the line it was originally built, so this is a pretty unique experience.

Sandcastle Waterpark

This, the UK’s largest indoor water park, is one for the family if you’re looking for some indoor fun, a swim and a splash about. Or you can listen to a fascinating talk, or watch impressive displays of everything from birds to seas lions.

As well as an award-winning beach, Blackpool is home to not one, but three impressive piers – Central, North and the South Pier. Opening in 1863 and at 500 metres in length, the North Pier is a listed building and the oldest and longest of the three. VIVA Blackpool head to the beach

6 September 2019

Viva Blackpool organised a clean up of the golden mile yesterday, following the huge influx of visitors over the last few days.

Last weekend (30th August) it was officially national beach day, so to commemorate the event, Viva Blackpool committed to doing a beach clean of the golden mile this week, to help clear up after the busy illuminations weekend.

Staff from the entertainment venue along with local residents took to the beach between North and Central Pier, between 10.30 and 12.30 to comb for litter and were grateful to the volunteers who turned up to pledge their own support too.

Martin Heywood, joint owner of Viva Blackpool said: “We’ve had a lot of visitors to Blackpool over the last few days, which is great news for local businesses, but a big influx of visitors equals a lot more litter, so with it being national beach day last week, we asked people to join us to do a litter pick on the golden mile after the illuminations weekend. We had a great turn out, with 15 volunteers and the golden mile certainly looks even more golden now!”

One supporter, Elisabeth Green said “It’s great to see people take pride in their town and the beach clean really shows we’ve got a part to play. Thanks to Viva for organizing, I’m already looking forward to the next one they’re organising!”

A Wedding Planner’s Top 5 Tips for Choosing a Theme for Your Wedding!

7 June 2019

Your wedding theme will paint the picture for your whole wedding, so finding the perfect theme for your special day, that best suits you and your spouse, is really important!

You’re newly engaged and super excited to start wedding planning, or perhaps you’ve been engaged for quite a while and have never really been too sure where to begin. After all, when you enter the world of wedding planning there is so much to consider, and without a guide to follow in place it can easily become overwhelming and spiral out of control.

Don’t know where to start? I’ve come up with a few handy ways to help you figure out which style of wedding suits you best.Here are my Top 5 Tips to consider when choosing a wedding theme;

  1. Set Your Wedding Date

One of the first, and most important, things on your To Do List should be to set the date! The easiest way to do this is to first rule out dates you definitely DON’T want. You might not want to get married around any public holidays such as Christmas, or Easter, or you may want to avoid a particular season such as Winter as it’s too cold in your area – or Summer if you find a lot of your family and friends are likely to be away for the holidays! Once you’ve listed the times of year you’d like to avoid this will make it easier to settle on a date that suits you perfectly!

  1. Make a list of your Hobbies, Interests, and anything that inspires you.

Take some time to sit down with your significant other and make a combined list of your hobbies, interests, and things that make you feel good. Perhaps you both enjoy spending time outdoors and love nature? Do you spend your free time at concerts, gigs, and enjoy live music? Is there a particular country or town that means something to you both that you love to visit? Wedding themes come in all shapes and sizes, so no matter how wacky it is, write it down and keep building your list.

Once you have everything written down, go through each item and see if you can create a theme out of any of the ideas. For example; you love camping, festivals, and live music – a Festival themed wedding makes for a fun day out for your guests and there are lots of wedding suppliers who can create a Festival themed wedding without breaking the bank.

  1. Make a Wish List

If you’re anything like me, you’ll have hundreds of ideas buzzing around your mind of all the things you want to include as part of your special day, even more so if you have a love of Pinterest and are constantly bombarded with wedding inspo!

Make a list of all the things you’d like; list as much as you can from different style wedding cakes, a choice in centrepieces, types of favours you’d like, and even entertainment options – Once you have them all in front of you, you might be surprised that many of your ideas all link to one or two particular wedding styles – making it even simpler to choose a theme!

  1. Choose Your Wedding Venue

You’ve chosen your date, you’ve made a list of your hobbies and interests, and you’ve chosen your wish list – When it comes to themed weddings; the wedding venue can play a huge part in choosing the right theme! Some venues can accommodate all types of themes; especially if you’re working with a blank space. However, if you’re opting for a Bohemian Style wedding as a theme, a Town Hall type venue probably wouldn’t be the best fit. If you’re looking for a Vegas Style wedding, a venue that can already add a bit of Glitz and Glam would be perfect!

  1. Stay True to Yourself

“A wedding is a party, not a performance. If at the end of the day you are married to the one you love, then everything went perfectly!”

Choosing the right theme for your once in a lifetime occasion is not always easy, but it’s important to remember that the day is about the two of you becoming one, and therefore the theme should reflect your personalities and mean something to the both of you! Try not to get too hung up on making decisions and most importantly – Have fun planning your themed wedding!
